For as long as I can remember, my hair had a mind of its own. The ends were always dry and rough, they'd snap when I brushed them, and no matter how often I went in for a trim, the split ends were back within weeks.
I tried everything. New shampoos, expensive masks, bond-repair treatments, the oils everyone swears by. Nothing held. Eventually I just told myself maybe my hair was simply like this. Maybe it was me.
So when I sat down in my hairstylist's chair that afternoon, I was expecting nothing more than another trim. Instead, she ran her fingers through my hair, stopped, and asked me something I wasn't expecting.
"What's your shower water like?"
I told her it was just normal tap water. Nothing special. She nodded like she'd heard it a hundred times before, and said something that stopped me cold.
